Medi-Cal does not recognise a lactation educator-counselor or IBCLC certification as a designated profession that can be assigned a provider number or bill directly. Lactation support IS payable, but only when rendered by a community perinatal health worker, medical assistant, RN, NP or PA who holds one of those certifications, billed under that provider's Medi-Cal number. A non-RN IBCLC in independent practice has no route.
