New York Medicaid has paid for lactation counselling since 2013, and from July 2022 (fee-for-service) and September 2022 (managed care) widened the accepted certifications to include IBCLC, CLC, CBS, CLS, CLE, CCL and CBE. ⚠ But the biller must be a LICENSED health professional — physician, PA, NP, midwife or RN — who also holds one of those certifications. The certification is an add-on to a licence, not a route of its own, so a non-RN IBCLC cannot enrol and bill independently. Codes S9445/S9446.
